Weekend Must-Watch: Discovery Channel’s “Human Body: Pushing the Limits”
Were you able to catch Discovery Channel’s Human Body: Pushing the Limits Parts 1 and 2 last week? If you did, what were your thoughts? I found it amazing. I learned a ton and was captivated from start to finish.
This Sunday, March 9, Parts 3 and 4 will air. These are the final segments in the series, so be sure to tune in. Here’s what’s in store:
Episode 3 - Sensation
Airs at 9pm ET/PT, Sunday March 9
This episode focuses on the “antennae” that allow us to sense the world around us. These innate forces are crucial to our nervous system, and can travel across the body and to the brain at hundreds of miles per hour.
During this show, we will see a father and daughter stranded in the scorching Australian Outback without water. As the situation worsens, their nerves trigger the hidden survival systems within them. In addition, we will also understand how a Coast Guard pilot is able to control his helicopter with exact precision, even in strong winds. And finally, we’ll see how intense training and mental discipline allows Shaolin monks to endure powerful blows to their bodies without any reaction at all - even blinking.
Episode 4 - Brain Power
Airs at 10pm ET/PT, Sunday March 9
In the final installment of this fascinating series, we will get an all-access glimpse into the most powerful organ in the natural world: the human brain. Our amazing brains generate as many electrical impulses in a day as all the telephones in the world combined. Pretty impressive.
Using new state-of-the-art imagery of the brain, we are shown how our brains react when faced with extreme stress or danger. Some highlights include: An interview with NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer, who candidly talks about making split-second decisions in the heat and stress of a 400-lap race; how the brain of a firefighter can take charge without waiting for conscious control; and the story of an explorer who, alone, pushes himself to the limits of sleep deprivation and the potential effects of that.
And as a bonus, we’ll also learn about the ways our brains can re-align our systems when starvation is a threat, and how sleep and dreams can set free some unseen powers in our mind.
Really, this series is phenomenal. Take a breather Sunday night to watch. I can pretty much guarantee you’ll be enthralled.

I kinda pushed a promo for the first episode…and then never watched it. It does look pretty interesting though and I’m sure we’ll see re-runs. Mayeb I’ll try to catch it again tomorrow night.

Do that, Scott. You’ll enjoy it - it’s a very visual thing, not all boring and science-y. ;)
