Female Sperm ?

Every time we think that the scientists have run out of bizarre experiments, they surprise us with a new one. Here’s the latest one.. “Scientists in England say they may have found a way to produce sperm from a woman’s bone marrow.”  Not only would this mean that theoretically men could be cut out of the reproductive cycle but the female artifical sperm would only produce female children. (Frostfirefizz.com)

Scientists gone mad?

Seems I’m not the only one thinking that there are some really bizarre experiments happening in the scientific world. British newpaper The Independent wrote an article about the situation: Bizarre experiments: Why did they do that? They asked…

Why study kangaroo farts?
Why give frogs a Teflon coating?
What’s the point of a glow-in-the-dark cat?
Why give worms antidepressants?
Why map the genome for the fungus that causes Dandruff?
Why produce robotic snot?

What becomes of the broken hearted?

It’s awful hard to fix a broken heart but one company in Japan, Tokyo based Hime & Company, is doing it’s best to help you feel better. Here’s how it works. Any staff member under the age of 24 gets one day off a year to help mend their broken heart. Staff between 25 and 29 get two ‘broken heart ‘ days a year and anyone older can have three days. CEO Miki Hiradate explains the rational behind the heartbreak days, “Not everyone needs to take maternity leave but with heartbreak, everyone needs time off, just like when you get sick”. (Japanese firm offers “heartache leave” for staff)

And finally…

Some fascinating facts about the human body.

oh boy, do I agree with you. I often rant about the studies done and the money wasted. My latest rant was on the study that older drivers with dementia have more accidents. Really? Who would have thought?
As one of my readers said, how about taking the money spent on that study and putting towards helping families who have parents with dementia.
    Grr.

    Hi Marijke,

    Having just written about a
six year old with a rare form of alzheimer’s disease
, I must admit I have trouble understanding why scientists are studying ‘why kangaroos fart’. But I guess there must be some reason to it all…

Elaine, I love glumbert too - you never know what you’ll find there…and it’s not only entertaining but also educationally.

    cheers,
    liz
