Could Blogging Be Bad for Your Health?
We’ve all heard about Occupational Job Hazards, but could little ‘ol bloggers be next in line to suffer a work-related mishap?
Maybe so.
You see, on December 28, a very well-known and highly-respected tech blogger by the name of Om Malik (of GigaOm fame) suffered a heart attack that some theorized may have been caused by Mr. Malik’s job title. The thought was that Malik, only 41, was under such pressure to put out posts and opinions worthy of the reputation he had built for himself, that he caused himself so much stress his heart couldn’t oblige.
Could this be true? Could Malik’s “Brand Identity” be so strong that the worries of keeping up with the bar he’s set for himself be that counterproductive? Is this the kind of thing Donald Trump deals with? Is this what I have to look forward to (ahem, no laughing!)
In truth, Mr. Malik’s Giga Omni Media COO, Paul Walborsky notes that instead of stress, Malik’s affinity for smoking like a chimney (cigarettes and cigars alike) was more likely the cause of his ailment (just one more reason to quit, eh?) Malik pretty much agrees, stating that his apartment has been rid of smokes, scotch and his favorite fatty foods. Hm…sounds like he was partaking in some damn healthy living to me, how ’bout you?
Still, there is something to be said for job stress. Even the most harmless-seaming of jobs could tip the health scale, so remember to take time to decompress, prioritize and delegate if possible. For your health.

Yeah, Mary. But it’s a good thing we all love our jobs so much that we’re willing to risk our very lives for them, eh? ;p

P.S. We also want to add that we at Healthbolt wish Mr. Malik a speedy recovery and a life filled with health and peace.

I could see possible risks; as I mostly write about food, I’ve used “for research” or “for the sake of the blog” or “it’s what my audience expects” as excuses to eat all manner of wrongness (haggis, fried state-fair offerings, bacon chocolate, etc).
I mean, I’d probably eat all that stuff anyway; it’s just that when I have my inevitable coronary, I can say it was all in the name of art. Or something.
