A Healthy Christmas ?

by Liz on December 25th, 2007

If you’ve been reading all the articles and studies in the news recently you might start thinking that Christmas is really bad for your health.

It seems that in order to survive Christmas these days you have to navigate through numerous health obstacles - the Christmas Tree Sneezes, the Merry Christmas Coronary, the Christmas Blues, the Christmas Bulge, and the Christmas Binge.

So to help you survive all these Christmas health hazards, here’s a few tips from Healthbolt

  • Have fun. Stress less, laugh more.
  • It’s not all about the presents. Yes, it’s nice to give and get but is it worth all the stress and debt? Most of us don’t need presents, just hugs and love.
  • Moderation is always the key, even at Christmas.
  • Let it Go. So what if there is a family feud going on. Put it on hold for the day.
  • Take a walk. Fresh air and good company are a winning combination.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season…

Very well said. I tend to freak out around this time, but I’m trying to control it.

Holidays are an excuse to take a day off work, hang out with family, and catch up around the house, but so many people stress. I avoid this by remembering the true spirit of the holidays. To help myself stay on track, I want to read Dr. Dean Ornish’s new book the “Spectrum”. He provides you tools to customize a way of eating, managing stress, and exercising that is based on your own desires, needs, and genetic predispositions. Hopefully this will help me figure out what’s best for me… Here’s a link to an interesting discussion about it: http://www.wellsphere.com/viewGroup.s?id=110918

Any word on The Christmas Hurls? Unfortunately, that’s how I spent my Christmas - with a gastrointestinal haywire. :( On the couch, in a haze - that is not how I wanted to spend my holiday (or how I wanted to score a day off!) ;) Hope everyone else’s was much happier and healthier!!

hi maya, sounds like more people should be looking at Christmas the way you are. And thanks for pointing out Dr Ornish’s new book. Haven’t read any of his. Will have to have a look out for it when I head over to Border’s this weekend for my fix of coffee and magazines.

    happy holidays
