Get Bad Breath Under Control with Natural Fixes

Unless you’re six feet under, chances are darn good that you’ve got breath passing through your lips. And if that’s the case, chances are also darn good that on occasion it’s downright boostin’. With the holidays coming and parties stretching on for days, you’re even more susceptible to stanky breff and you may not always have your Listerine handy.

No prob, say the fine folks at The International Conference on Breath Odor Research. There are plenty of quick fixes in your reach, so read up, freshen up, and save yourself the embarrassment of curling your boss’s eyebrows at the Office Christmas Party.

  • The Culprit: Garlic - Garlic is front-and-center this season in party appetizers and dips, so instead of avoiding the buffet line (yeah, right), grab a sprig of parsley that the hostess so thoughtfully fancied the plates up with. Parsley’s natural oils help neutralize icky garlic breath in a hurry, so chew one now and stash one for later.
  • The Culprit: Meat - Another prevalent component of holiday feasting (or every day, for that matter). Meat becomes a problem when it sticks in your teeth and begins decaying (hurl!). Mint-flavored dental floss will do the trick, or if flossing’s not an option, reach for the mint sprig poking out of that Christmas cocktail.
  • The Culprit: Coffee - When life without coffee is about as realistic as a sumo wrestler becoming a ballerina, keep a pack of cinnamon gum on hand to thwart that coffee breath aura. Cinnamon is a natural germ-killer and cuts bacteria by half.
  • The Culprit: Cheese - Cheese, cheese, beloved cheese. How thine makes a meal more worthy of consumption than any other foodstuff available is simply poetic. (Ahem. Sorry, got a little carried away there.) Anyhoo, since cheese does not exactly excel in the breath-freshening department, grab a cup of black tea and wash it on down. Black tea contains antibacterial properties that rinse away the proteins in cheese and reduces smelly plaque.

So there you have it. Natural fixes for a natural occurrence. Stinky breath, be damned!
