Warning: Meme Ahead

by Sara on November 28th, 2007

So this whole “7 things about me” meme has been going on for quite some time in the health sector of the blogosphere (and elsewhere). I don’t generally like to get very personal, but Amy T tagged me, and I’m only participating because she’s such a sassy little frassy. So here goes. 7 things about your ‘bolt blogger. If the personal side of things makes you puke, skip this post.

1. I believe time is our most precious commodity. I am consequently very selfish about how I spend my time. In fact, on my 27th birthday (September 7th of this year), I made the decision never again to give my time to anything or anyone I couldn’t believe in. It’s interesting.

2. I think that religion is hilarious, that courage is the most important virtue, and that change is vital. I think American culture is drowning in narcissism, I think casual therapy is vulgar, and I despise horse sh*t like The Secret.

3. Steak is my favorite food. (I was a vegetarian for 12 years. I’m making up for lost time. Sorry, cows.)

4. I believe the best thing in life is a true friend.

5. I was primarily home-schooled until high school. (Dingdingding!)

6. I am exceptionally curious. I love philosophy, science, history, design, art, and original people. Especially the fighters.

7. I am hooked on blogging. The post I’m most proud of is “How to Get Over a Broken Heart”. And I might as well tell you now: in 2008 I’ll be launching a couple of bad-ass not-at-all-health-related projects. Details to come very soon.

P.S. I know I have the best readers, and for the ones I’ve been lucky enough to become friends with, online and off, I’m grateful.

Now here’s the deal, just because I’m ornery like that: I’m not tagging any bloggers. I’m tagging you. Tell me 7 things about yourself.

    1. Carnivore…major carnivore.

    2. Food philosophy … I will eat anything if I trust the chef.

    3. True friends are hard to find and few and far between, but those who are, are worth “going to the mattress” for …

    4. I think the current trend towards the wuss-a-fication of men is a sad commentary on the state of American values…

    5. I enjoy physical activities, from sparring to a walk on the beach, but also find comfort in a fire, a glass of wine and a good book, or cooking a great meal … striving to be a polymath. ;)

    6. Favorite vices … cigars and bourbon …

    7. Car I will one day own … Glossy black mint 69 Camaro SS with a blown 427 …

Thank you Sara for all the fun and insightful post … :)

    1. Television commercials make me angry when they portray people being happy when eating bad food or receiving expensive gifts. I think this is an engine that is, and has been for a long time, accelerating americans towards obesity and debt in the effort to acheive happiness.
    2. I believe it is time to dump organized religion all together. Jesus didn’t die on a cross for his leaders to steal a bunch of jewish art for “safe keeping” and never return it, instead only make money on allowing them to see it. I don’t think I need to pay anyone for the privledge of sitting in a centralized location to talk to the God I’m told I should believe in.
    3. I tried vegetarianism. I am much more at ease with knowing that free range meat enjoyed their lives to the best of their ability before dying. And now I’m not full of antibiotics and steroids. Meat just tastes too good.
    4. I believe the best thing in life is learning that true happiness comes from inside yourself. Once the dependence of others vanishes and you realize you are in control of your own emotions, everything is so much better.
    5. My favorite place to be is in nature around a campfire preferably with a good view and some good people to share the experience with.
    6. I strive to finish a book on anything once a week. My favorite weekly goal, however, is at least one Guinness.
    7. I want to start a blog of my own in the worst way, but can’t seem to come up with a topic on which to write. Someday soon I will have one, however.. For now I am content with completing the projects of friends who don’t have the html knowledge (or time enough to care to learn) to do the hard part on their own. http://www.themenzingers.com

    Brian,

You, carnivore? Never saw that one coming. ;P Regarding “wussafication”, peep this: http://www.barnard.edu/amstud/resources/nationalism/james.htm I happen to think the massive onslaught of casual misogyny in our culture needs some serious discussion, but I won’t hold my breath. You didn’t draw that into your point about the current “American male”, but I’m taking it there. ;) Thanks for sharing a little bit about yourself. :)

    Mack,

Check out the Gouldenomics blog, Crooked Brains (which I actually found out about from Brian), and Kottke, if you haven’t already. All your points are compelling (if I see one more stupid diamond necklace commercial…), but I especially like your point about happiness coming from within. As for blogging…you must! Get thee to a Wordpress theme!

    Thanks guys! :)

    1. In important ways, I’ve refused to ‘grow up’. I’m proud of this. Children see the world more as it is - adults are programmed by all sorts of influences. I want to be childish.

    2. I’m an enthusiast. Generally. This probably makes me a pain in the ass, but it’s not my ass that feels the pain, so hey.

    3. I owe the author of this site a debt I can probably never pay, although I’ll keep my eye out for a way.

    4. I can make my eyes go different directions at the same time.

    5. I used to be fat. I got healthier and lighter by exercising and eating differently. I didn’t get healthier and lighter by eating less. That’s why I have a world of problems concerning a particular use of the word “diet”.

    6. I believe this: nobody will look after You better than You. So take the reins.

    7. Blogging is a drug. I went cold turkey for 2 months - and a few days ago, I fell off the wagon again. (Dang).

    1) My biggest secret is I want to be a well known writer and speaker. I am still tweaking what I think my niche is but in the end I just want to help people be successful and happy.

    2) I despise lazy and uninspired people.

    3) My favorite food is Barbecue Ribs, (most especially the ones from Montgomery Inn in Cincinnati http://www.montgomeryinn.com )

    4) Although I am currently writing a book about change to a certain degree I am very repetitious and really need to push myself to try something new.

    5) My favorite city is San Francisco, however, I would not want to live there full time. I have a fascination with Bridges and thus the home of the Golden Gate gives SF a big lift in my book.

    6) I just started reading HealthBolt and enjoy it very much. I am looking forward to your upcoming projects. This is one of the blogs I am reading for fun.

    7) I really just want an audience.

    Mike(achim),

I particularly like your first point. I think there’s a lot of childishness but not enough open curiosity these days.

Brian (coach), wow, great goals! :) Thanks for being a reader, too. :)

I too love ribs. And wings. And messy meat generally.

    Mack,

Cool, thanks. More for the Stumble blog! :)
