Avian Flu Scare Hits Virginia
An outbreak of what may be avian flu has prompted Virginia to ban the sale of live chickens, turkeys and other fowl in that state. In addition to banning sales, all poultry shows are temporarily banned as well, meaning Virginians will need to rethink their weekend plans. (I’m kidding!) Fortunately, the antibodies detected indicate a mild strain of bird flu that does not harm humans. Unfortunately, this could be sad news for a lot of birds (Virginia already had to put down 5 million little cluckers in 2002). Still, despite the July hold and the evening “news”, you don’t have to panic. The sky, and human health, remain fully intact.
Bonus: the definitive answer to the chicken-or-the-egg debate.

Hi Sara,
I appreciate your very cool talent at serving up great material in a rare form that is both entertaining and informative. Welcome aboard! On the chicken scare…very good! If I was afraid of everything they want me to fear, I wouldn’t even touch a computer. Well said!
