Roll Your Own Water-Resistant Sun Protection

by Wade Meredith on May 18th, 2007

Some of us just aren’t comfortable covering our bodies with something cooked in a vat off the new Jersey turnpike as an alternative to sun exposure. We’d like to do the cooking ourselves. Now, there are tons of common kitchen item type recipes out there that involve creamy vegetables and oil, but I say, screw that. Most of them have an spf of 4, which is like having water splashed on your skin.

If you’re serious about protecting your pink butt from turning red, you need something a bit more serious. Enter Sommerset Cosmetic Company. (No affiliation) They’ll sell you the heavy ammunition you need to make a water resistant sunscreen with an spf of 25-32. How’s you’re oil slathered body now, sesame boy?

This recipe isn’t for the faint off heart, but it doesn’t look any harder than baking a cake. It certainly doesn’t look harder than making the Lasagna worth getting your arse kicked in. This recipe is mixed in two phases and it mainly seems like a LOT of measuring would be the most difficult part.

Here’s a screenie (links won’t work) of the recipe:

    Yeah, right Wade.

I’m too lazy to make hard boiled eggs for breakfast–I’m going to start cooking up my own sunscreen?

    That’s what drugstores are for!

But rock on. Let us know how it goes.

At least I’ve got all these ingredients just lying around the house.

    Total psyche out.

The hardest part would be adding the new pantry in your house to put all this crap once you’ve bought it.

Use sun protective clothing to protect your body.
