The American Cancer Society is looking for a half-million men and women, between 30 and 65, who are cancer free. They want to follow them for the next 20 years and see if they get cancer.

The study itself is being called CPS-3 (catchy, eh?) They’ll be collecting biological specimens, doing dietary assessments, and looking at lifestyle and environmental exposures. It’s all part of an even bigger global push to look at cancer. This study’s aim is to match other massive, long-term, cancer studies already underway in Asia and Europe.

Enrollment in CPS-3 will be at 64 of the 4,800 Relay For Life® events taking place across the U.S. in 2007, and continue at select Relay events through 2011 (a pilot program enrolled participants at a handful of Relay events in 2006). If you do want to sign up, it will take about 30 minutes, they’ll take your blood and a waist measurement, and then they’ll mail you a tracking questionnaire every few years.

If you can’t make it to a Relay For Life event and still want to become involved with CPS-3, visit www.cancer.org/cps3, email cps3@cancer org, or call toll-free 1-888-604-5888.
