A Bookmarklet for Sore Eyes: ‘Blackify’ Any Website in One Click
Jabago.com provides an interesting alternative to Google search with their black Google search. (A web coding parlor trick, if there ever was one.) What I like more, is the ‘blackify’ bookmarklet they offer on their black Google search page.
You see, black text on a white background is the most readable, but it’s not so easy on your eyes over long periods of time. Try it out by hitting the button below. (You can just hit the ‘refresh’ button to revert the page to it’s normal color.)
If you want this effect at your one-click fingertips, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Netscape users, just drag it up to your menu bar. (Internet Explorer users go here.) Now you permanently have the power to blackify any web page you run across.

That’s awful. I hate black pages with all kinds of weird colored text. I ifnd these pages difficult to read and will either change it to a white background or never go back to the page again.

Yes. The problem is when web designers think they are being cool using black backgrounds and force it on all their readers, many of whom do not know how to change to something normal.
The ROT is stick with standards. If white text on a black background were truly a better way to present info, then why aren’t all books made that way?

Why can’t there be a light blue background tool?

I think this is a cool little device. It is definitely easier on the eye, but also if using a CRT monitor will save you electricity… so there!
