Drug-Release Robo-Tooth Implant on the Way

Medgadget is reporting on a new time release tooth implant. It’s a kind of mecha-crown that would be capable of releasing medicines directly into the blood stream or into the mouth itself. Sounds like sci-fi fun, but they raise some good points about the maybe-future product:
Perhaps this device could be helpful in older patients who are unable to manage their own medications. But on the other hand, patches, subdermal implants, and infusion pumps have been holding up pretty well, so why try and stick something in an area of the body that experiences the most dynamic and intense mechanical/chemical environments?

(FYI: the Hello Kitty tooth implant web-meme is bunk. Nice Photo-chop, though.)
