We all need a friend, but the best ones are good listeners and don’t care about your short comings. I’m talking about pets! Animals and their positive impact on our health has been well documented for years; besides, owning a pet is fun! From the centers for Disease Control website:
Pets can decrease your:
Blood pressure
Cholesterol levels
Triglyceride levels
Feelings of lonelinessPets can increase your:
Opportunities for exercise and outdoor activities
Opportunities for socialization
It’s a win–win as long as allergies aren’t a problem and you’re able to take care of your pet. That last one is a biggie, though. Make sure you do some research and find the right pet for you and your schedule before you rescue/buy. And check out our post on What’s it Really Cost to Own a Pet.
