Product Review and Giveaway: Trail Blaze Energy Bars

by Wade Meredith on December 13th, 2006

Bars Ready For Oven
I’ve seen lots of bake-at-home energy bars, but had never tried them. Trail Blaze energy bars sent me a couple of boxes to try out, and I thought I’d pass one of them onto you guys. Check out the short review below, and then head to the comments section and post something about my washboard abs to get entered to win.

Review:

I made the My wife made the cranberry-walnut variety over the weekend. These taste good and are easy to prepare. They come in a box, you add applesauce and/or yogurt, then bake them for 30 minutes and they’re done. They’re easily customizable for your diet preferences, which is great for vegans and other intake control freaks. And they’re cheap: a box costs $5 and makes 9 bars.

Nutrition Facts

One side of my family had an early Christmas this last weekend, and there was a gathering at my house for brunch and exchange of gifts. We made these bars up and set them on the carb tray with banana bread and cinnamon rolls. Saying that they held their own against warm, iced cinnamon rolls and my wife’s home-made banana bread is about the highest compliment I can give, taste-wise.

So basically, they’re good stuff, especially if they’re free. The box I’m giving away is the chocolate chip variety. I’ll draw a winner on Friday and ship them out this weekend; just post in the comments to get entered.

Those sound tasty! Can you please also send a cinnamon roll and a banana bread sampler so we can truly “try this at home?”

Any kind of free food giveaway and I’m there, especially if it will give me washboard abs like Wade. Unless it’s lima beans, because I hate lima beans.

I think it’s kind of weird that they list the nutritional facts for both the dry mix and the baked finished product. Do some people consume just the dry mix?

I’ve never had energy bars with omega-3s in them - I’d love to try these!

I must say, this is one of the very few free food giveaways I have encountered, but it rocks! I’ve actually also been looking for an alternative to buying overly expensive energy bars but have yet to try to make my own. Thanks for the giveaway and the helpful review.

Hook me up! I am studying nutrition in college and I would enjoy “experimenting” with some nutritious home-baked energy bars.

I hope Keith wins so I can have some. Since he lives closest and is a good sharer. It’s times like these, when I’m not allowed to win things with “chocolate chip” in their name, that it’s really hard to be a wife.

Keith, if you win can I have some, or what?

Sorry, lady, i can’t give my wife the prize, it looks suspicious. I told you I would buy you some…

I will give you some Melynda, even though you both are very mean while playing cards!

The only problem I see with the product is the fact that the omega 3 fatty acids will be effectively destroyed when you bake the bars. So it’s a bit deceptive to list the omega3’s on the label.
