Beverage Psychology: The Glass is Half Wide

We all have a bias caused by a visual illusion known as the vertical-horizontal illusion. This basically means that the human eye considers height much more important than width. This is why poeple say that the St. Louis Arch is tall, but never really comment on how wide it is, even though its dimensions are square.

This causes us to think that we’ve had less to drink if our glasses are short and wide as opposed to drinking the same amount of liquid from a tall skinny glass.

That’s it, from now on, I’m ordering all my G&T’s “tall”.
