Face Transplant is declared a success

Six months ago the world’s first face transplant was performed in France. The woman received the groundbreaking surgery after she was mauled by a dog and left horribly disfigured in May, 2005. The face was taken from a multi-organ donor that was brain-dead.
Yesterday the British medical journal Lancet published the findings of a study that say the operation was a success. After the transplant of cheeks, chin, arterial tissues, cartilage, fatty tissues and nerves, the woman can talk, chew and her speech is rapidly returning to normal. Her face was also described as visually un-remarkable. There are still immunosuppression and psychological aspects of the procedure that will be ongoing.
A face transplant is better than a skin graft from somewhere else on the body because the transplant will have a much more natural texture.

Ummm… she wasn’t “mauled” by the dog. She took a whole bunch of drugs, and the dog chewed off (I can only assume he did it very gently) most of the lower third of her face. Probably because his owner did a bunch or drugs and forgot to feed him.

It was NOT a pit bull terrier, if that’s what you’re implying…….
(I think it was a black lab type. Seriously. I’m not just saying that because you have a black lab. But, now that I’m thinking about it, better not fall asleep anywhere NEAR your dog.)
