From the Other Side of the Drill #1: How does my dentist know I haven’t been flossing?

Me:
How the heck does my dentist know that I haven’t been flossing when I floss right before I go in to see her?
Melynda (My dentist and my lovely Wife):
When you haven’t been flossing regularly, your gums are probably not quite as healthy as they should be. So if you try and “cram” in a good solid flossing session the morning before sitting down in the dental chair, the dentist can notice tiny tears in your gum tissue. Easy solution: make flossing a daily, or at least an every-other-day, habit to keep those gums healthy!

It’s a “handpiece,” not a drill. Dang it.
