Never Saw it Coming

Many a grimace-inducing mental image can now be avoided with this awesome invention called The Sawstop. It’s a table-top saw that fires an aluminum slug into the rotating saw blade as soon as it detects contact with flesh. The blade buries itself in the slug expending it’s considerable kinetic energy and comes to a *very* quick stop. This can turn a Hollywood blockbuster antogonist-worthy death or maiming into a mere nick.

Very cool.

It does ruin the blade 50% of the time and is a one-time use system that has to be replaced, but I’ll bet it’s cheaper and less of a pain (…) than re-attaching multiple digits or worse. Read all about it after the jump.
